FAIRLYNCH ARTS CENTRE AND MUSEUM
For its 41st season the museum of Budleigh Salterton and the Lower Otter Valley offers new exhibitions and a warm welcome to residents and visitors during Gala Week.
Local artist Evelyn Dewar presents contemporary paintings inspired by the Fairlynch collection of Costume and Accessories. This contrasts with ‘Devon Flora and Fauna in Lace’, a special celebration of a traditional craft with examples from our own collections and from Exeter Museum, staged in our new show cases.
Mid-Victorian costume and toys from local families are supported by much ‘new’ material on the town and its people, the history of Fairlynch, and a new exhibit on the Budleigh Salterton Railway. Come in and study local family archives, or spend time on research in the museum library.
International recognition of the Jurassic Coast adds importance to our geological displays. When was Salterton near the equator ,and why are the pebbles so smooth? How did people live in the Otter Valley over the last two thousand years? And before?
The museum will be open every afternoon, 2pm-4.30pm. Entrance £2 for adults; £1.50 for concessions, accompanied children, and students free. Free entry too for all Friends of Fairlynch…our main supporters. Forms available from the Museum. |
