FUND RAISING

Through out the year there are many fund raising events organised by the Activities Chairman & other Lions, Club members and sometimes their wives man these as well. Events can be one-oft or regular tried and tested events such as bingo, jumble sales, pub quizzes etc.

The biggest event of our fund raising year is GALA WEEK at the end of May, which we coordinate for other charitable organisations into a very full week of activities, starting with the FETE on the green opened by a local celebrity. This year (2008) GALA WEEK helped, these organisations make approximately £15,000.

We have a couple of events specifically for the Good Shepard Hospital in Swaziland who we support with a monthly donation and if possible an item of equipment as and when our funds permit.

We also run a charity GOLF DAY at the East Devon Golf Club, Budleigh Salterton in August. Entry forms far teams of four are available from Lion Geoff Paver on 01395 445298

On August bank holiday Monday, we have a charity craft and general sale on the sea front by the Longboat Cafe. At this event, we sell DUCK RACE tickets and it is the last chance to buy tickets for the BIG BALLOON RACE, when we or the children let off 1 00's of biodegradable balloons. We also have our ever popular Bar- B-Que running all day selling hot dogs and beef burgers.

In September there is the annual DUCK RACE down the river Otter, finishing at White Bridge. For photographs of the 2008, Duck Race click here.
